Welcome to Esperiae - FF XII Walkthrough!
Welcome indeed! FF XII is the newest installment in the Final Fantasy series, the last on the PS2 and, in my opinion, one of the best so far and the perfect blend between the older generation (FF I to VI) and the 2nd (FF VII to X-2), with elements of FF XI and all the previous games directed by Matsuno. It may sounds like an odd combination, but somehow it works, and you let yourself being dragged helplessly in a story of wars and empires, princess and sky pirates, generals and thieves and espers and crystals. I hope this website will do it justice
Latest Updates
07.24.08: I have just started working on what I hope will turn out to be a useful section - you can see a sneak preview as it is developed here. I also have a new walkthrough chapter and the licence section under work so keep your eyes open for new site update announcements, hopefully in the next few days ^-^
07.12.08: I can hardly believe I've actually done it, but I have: the Equipment section is now complete!!!!! Well, it doesn't mean that revisions won't be necessary: the texts need improvement and I'm sure I've missed an item location here and there but all the lists are up now and all references have been crosschecked in between the NA, the Japanese and the European guides, so at least I'm hoping it's at least more accurate than the NA guide now. You should find a lot more information at any rate....
In the meanwhile, I've also begun translating the FF XII official manga from Japanese to English: I'm only learning Japanese, so it's not the most accurate thing ever, but hopefully it will at least convey what the manga is about. You'll find the first results of my translation efforts here at the BalxAshe LJ community - be aware though that it's under locked posts, which means you'll have to join if you want to read....for a preview open to the public, you can read this post. There are also a few pages posted elsewhere - I'll try to create a page with the complete list of links here at some point
06.26.08: Just in case, I haven't disappeared again; in fact, although I haven't updated this page, I have continued working on this site these days, just not as much as I had hoped....still, all the Weapons are now up in the Equipment section, as well as part of the light armor list. I plan next to have chapter 7.3 up as well as continue to work on the armor lists
06.07.08: And more Equipment pages up, this time the Measures list and the Crossbows (and bolts) list; I've actually added them yesterday and keep an eye here for new pages made available later today in the Game Data section then ;-)
06.05.08: New update - The bow (and arrows) list is up. That means four more lists to go for the weapons, yeah! I'll try to get started on the rest of the equipment sometime over the weekend as well
And now for the staves page. I'm hoping to upload at least another one this evening, and to have chapter #7.3 up sometime this weekend
06.04.08: Actually was done yesterday: there are two new weapon pages up for poles and rods; I am hoping to come as close to finishing all the weapons lists this week as possible, with possibly one or two armor lists as well...we'll see!
06.01.08: New update - I manage to complete chapter 7.2. I know there are quite a few typos left but I'll try and review the text tomorrow
I am now working on chapter 7.2 but in the meanwhile, I've completed two more weapons pages, Spears and Ninja Swords which means I'm now about halfway through the entire weapons list, whew! I'm also planning an additional page in this section to explain in details how to get the top weapons in the game, so stay tuned ;-)
05.28.08: Ok, so it doesn't have any illustration yet but I thought I'd still let you know the introduction to the World of Ivalice section (in the Extras) is available online now; it consists in a presentation of what the word Ivalice stands for in FF XII, as well as a short note on each continent's geography and climate. I'll add pretty pictures asap, and am now working on the History of Ivalice section
05.24.08: I don't remember last time I actually updated here when I said I would, but I did it! *g* Chapter 7.1 is now available. I'm also progressing with my translation of the Ultimania, and I hope to begin posting in the World of Ivalice section soon
05.22.08: Not so much of an update, but just to let you know that I've taken time at lunch to edit out all the typos and other stupid mistakes I could find in chapter 6. I hope to be able to update a new walkthrough page every week on average, at least until chapter 8.2 (where I am at the moment in my current playthrough) - with maybe chapter #7.1 ready this weekend already since it's a pretty short one. In the meanwhile I'll try to get some data up, and I've begun writing a systematic translation of the Ultimania guides, so expect new details to be added in sections already up; expect also new sections, in particular FF XII's World which will propose a closer look at Ivalice, its history, geography and people, based heavily on the information made available in the various Ultimania volumes
05.20.08: At last, Chapter 6 is up! All I need to add is the Extra Hints section, which I'm currently working on (there's a lot that needs to go there at this stage), but the walkthrough proper is all there....and I've already played all the way through the last stages of chapter 8 (Giruvegan) so unless RL keeps me away from the internet again, the following chapter should be up soon, as well as some more data and lists *s*
04.29.08: I'm back! I know, it's been months, I can hardly believe it myself. But I am playing the game again and have already passed chapter 6 which means....I'm working on it right now! In the meanwhile, I have also updated the links page
09.10.07: I'm sorry but my internet connection at home stupidly broke down on me :s Anyway, got it back and used the opportunity to upload several equipment pages - you can access them from the Equipment Basics page. Also in the meanwhile I've finished playing chapter 6, so I'll be writing that part of the walkthrough, as well as continue my work on
08.19.07: Alright, quick update to let you know that I've finished the Equipment Basics page, from which you'll also have access to all the detailed lists. I've also added the complete Daggers list, again with illustration and locations details: hope you like it ^-^

How this works - about spoilers
Overall, the structure is basically the same as for my FF X-2 Walkthrough, namely it wishes to become a comprehensive walkthrough with lots of extras on the side - galleries and artworks, media, etc It will take some time to build, especially while the game is still only in Japanese, and since I'm completing the FF X-2 Walkthrough at the same time, but I should get there eventually *g* At any rate, feel free to contact me if you have suggestions of any kind for the site, if you'd like to contribute or would like to exchange links - I may take a few days to get back to you though, so please be patient, thanks!
For now, my priority is the gaming aspects, i.e. the walkthrough itself, the side quests and the game data; as for now I have only Chapter 0.1 is up, but keep your eye peeled for more very soon! Btw, chapter divisions will follow that of the Ultimania Scenario guide, as it is the most logical I've found so far
Regarding spoilers: a walkthough is, by its very nature, spoilerish when it comes to gameplay. As for the storyline, I try my best to reveal only what I need to make sense (for instance, I will tell you when Basch joins the team), but I won't write about plot events otherwise. Also, I won't give the name of bosses that play a part in the storyline. As for pictures, I only put up screencaps that don't reveal story events, the others will be available only if you follow a link. If you really don't like the perspective of an illustrated walkthrough and want to remain spoiler-free in that regard, but still want to follow this walkthough, a text version will be available at FFXII.net
