Welcome to the World of Ivalice

Looks like you've just found the World of Ivalice section! My aim is to present here everything that makes Ivalice such a vibrant environment in FF XII: its history and geography, but also the people who inhabit this place

I know such information can be found elsewhere but so far I have only stumbled upon resumes or quotes of what can readily be found in the English guides and in the game itself. I'd like to expand on that by proposing aspects presented in the Japanese guides as well. At first it will mostly consist in translations of the original Japanese text slightly altered, but I will work towards reworing it and make it more personal as I progress. I hope you'll enjoy it!

World of Ivalice - Introduction

The stage of this game is "Ivalice", a name standing for a very large world constituted by a land divided into three rich and diverse continents. Before getting into the specifc and systematic exposition of its history and nations, I'd like first to propose a short introduction to Ivalice as a whole, then of each of the continents, their natural features and climate

Ivalice - generalities

"Ivalice" is the word that stands for the area constituted by three continents: Ordalia which includes at its eastern tip the Galtean Peninsula - the latter being at the heart of Ivalice, be it geographically, historically or culturally; to the northeast lies the continent of Valentia, and finally, to the south, the continent of Kerwon. The entire region is covered by an energy called "Mist", and the differences in terms of quality and density of the drifting Mist cause variations in both environment and climate. Living things too are in no small ways under the influence of the mist and their characteristics evolved greatly in order to adapt to environments enshrouded in it. Among them, the races that are part of the civilised society: first came the Humes, so-called "human beings", then the Bangas and Moogles and various other species. They carry on their lifes according to the differences that lie in their nature

All those variations explain how different cultural spheres were shaped over time all over Ivalice

The Ordalia Continent

This continent lies in western Ivalice. It is divided into two large areas contrasting in terms of natural features and climate: the western half is dominated by vast plains and a warm climate, while in the east the landscape turns into a continuously arid land of sand and rock. The Galtean Peninsula, which includes the Kingdom of Dalmasca, lies at the eastern tip of the continent and is therefore better described as essentially being a barren land of nothing but desert, especially at its center. However, because of its strategic position as a road of communication between the continents of Valentia in the north and Kerwon in the south, it became an area of major pivotal importance to Ivalice; it should therefore come as no surprise that, over the years, many countries have fought for sovereignty over that region

The Valentia Continent

This continent lies in northern Ivalice. Because of its gentle climate, warm and moist, and because of the mist's stability, life there is considered easier compared to the other two continents. For this reason, many villages and towns were built in the hill country of the southern part of the Valentian continent facing which faces the Naldoan Sea and has been blessed with some of Ivalice's richest grain-producing regions: the few windmills remains in the Cerobbi Steppe, for instance, is a testimony to the great agricultural activity this land once knew. Moreover, it is also at the forefront of magic, industry and engineering; yet because the air currents in the southeast part are so unstable, there are no air lanes and the many travellers go along land roads instead

The Kerwon Continent

This continent lies in southern Ivalice; up to 70% of its territory is covered in forests. The density of Mist is considerable: the result of this can be seen in the hectic development of the scenery and extremely diverse climates coexisting: the temperate zone covered by the jungle makes way to deep canyons covered in snow. Uncivilised lands left virtually untouched by the hand of man are not rare in this area. Apart from Humes, a few other races have elected to build their homes on this continent, in particular in the west live the Garifs and villages of the Viera dot the forest lands situated in the center of the northern part of the continent. On the other hand, Humes who dominate the other two continents are only present in the east here, in the high lands, where they have built the head temple of the faith of Kiltia
