Mark 1 - Red & Rotten in the Desert
Name: Rogue TomatoType: Deadly Nightshade
Rank: I
Location: Dalmasca Eastersand - The Stepping
Petitioner (location): Tomaj (Rabanastre - Sandsea Bar, by the board)
Hunt: See walkthrough, chapter 1.1. Note that this is the only hunt that's part of the main story
Rewards: 300 gils, 2x Potion, Teleport Stone; Galbana Lilies (key item)
Mark 2 - Wolf in the Waste
Name: ThexteraType: Mutant Wolf
Rank: I
Location: Dalmasca Westersand - Galtea Downs
Petitioner (location): Gatsly (Rabanastre - Sandsea Bar, sits on the floor near the board)
Hunt: This mission becomes available as soon as you have completed the previous one. Go back to the Sandsea bar in Rabanastre, check the board then talk to the man who is sitting on the floor on the right, as he is the petitioner this time. You'll be well inspired to wait until Penelo joins to tackle this one, with levels around 5-6 and make sure you have plenty of potions before going (remember, items take less time to use than magicks). If you've manage to get your hands on a Rod, it should make this fight quite easy (for more details about that, see the walkthrough)
When you deem yourself ready, head for the Dalmasca Westersand: the first area you enter is called Galtea Downs - this is where Thextera is located, a bit hidden in the SE corner of the area. Thextera is always accompagnied by other wolves - get rid of them first then concentrate your attacks on the mark itself (note that it will probably summon more wolves during the course of the battle). It's a pretty straightforward battle so no big strategies necessary here, just make sure you keep your team members healthy, in particular when it reaches critical, as it tends then to use a special attack that can do a lot of damages. Keep hammering at it and it should fall eventually; you can now head back into town
You'll want to talk to Gatsly again in the Sandsea bar for your reward, then take him up on his suggestion and visit him at the Muthru Bazaar where he is sitting on a counter (where his wife was standing, if you got to talk to her before completing the hunt). Doing so will unlock one of the Grimoires, which appears then in the bazaar section of any shop; however, don't worry if you can't afford to spend 18,000 gils on it right away, as, while it is a useful item, it's not that important, in particular at this stage of the game
Rewards: 500 gils, Headguard, Teleport Stone
Mark 3 - Dalmasca's Desert Bloom
Name: Flowering SabotenderType: Rare Sabotender
Rank: I
Location: Dalmasca Eastersand - Yardang Labyrinth
Petitioner (location): Dantro (Dalmasca Eastersand - Outpost)
Hunt: This mission becomes available as soon as you have completed Mark 1, but isn't recommended until you've got Balflear and Fran in your party and make sure you've got at least a couple Phoenix Down as the mark has a special attack that can easily KO one member. When you feel ready, visit Dantro at the Outpost in Dalmasca Eastersand to start this hunt: there will be a short during which your mark will be introduced
You can go after the mark right away, as it is located in the neighboring Yardang Labyrinth: you will find it somewhere in the NE, in one of the narrower passages. Now there are a few things to take in account about this hunt: it's not particularly difficult, but the Flowering Sabotender is usually surrounded by other sabotenders. Also, it tends to flee when you attach, which means that it might take some time before you can finish it off; finally, as I mentioned above, it has the 1000 Needles attack which, at this stage, will probably KO the victim. However, with three party members at least, you should beat it eventually
Go back to Dantro for your reward; he will ask you that you bring the Cactus Flower to his wife, who is located in the Dalmasca Eastersand, in the South Bank Village. This constitutes the first step in the long "Patient in the Desert" sidequest, which eventually enables you to open up a whole area and to access one of the extra Espers, as well as some great equipment
Rewards: 500 gils, 10x Potion; Cactus Flower
Mark 4 - Waterway Haunting
Name: WraithType: Ghost
Rank: I
Location: Garamsythe Waterway - Overflow Cloaca
Petitioner (location): Milha (Lowtown - North Sprawl)
Hunt: This mission becomes available as soon as you come back from your Bahreim Passage ordeal: just wait until you get Balflear, Fran and Basch back, as it is probably still too tough at this stage for one team member alone. Make sure you have plenty of Phoenix Down in case this battle lasts a bit. You'll find your petitioner squatting in front of the entrance of a house in the NE part of the North Sprawl
You have to head for the Garamsythe Waterway....again! The entrance, in case you had forgotten, is located in Storehouse 5. Take the exit on the right; although you can't see it, the Wraith is in the first area: just walk around to make it appear. Now you must know that this mark will try to cast Doom on each of your characters one by one; if you've leveled up enough, you may be able to beat it before the end of the countdown. If that's not the case, make sure you have those Phoenix Down in handy. The good news is that, until all three characters have been afflicted with Doom, it will hardly do you any physical harm othewise so most rounds can be spent hitting away at the mark. You should defeat it eventually; don't forget to visit the neighboring area, Central Waterway Control, to touch the save crystal in case some of the characters are still afflicted by Doom or any other status at this point as it will remove them all
Go back to Milha for your reward - a cutscene will follow, introducing the young Deeg. Remember him and the house where he's hiding, as this will be the starting point for another sidequest later on
Rewards: 500 gils, Ether, Gauntlets
